>Browser Wars

>
A good software is one that runs on all platforms. for web juntha like us a good web app is one that runs on all browsers. we write software that atleaset most of the times runs on all browsers. we also dutifully test the code we write in all browsers. Today i indulged in a small research study, which is the fastest browser that executes four test routines. the competitors were chrome, firefox, opera and yeah i-explorer. the testing environment that we used to run these functional tests was good old selenium.

well here are the results:

Chrome = 45.872 seconds
Opera = 46.245 seconds

Firefox = 54.324 seconds.

(i cooked up the last two digits but the first three are correct)

and yeah for all those of you who are eagerly waiting and already planning on the witty comment about how internet explorer and microsoft in general sucks well ladies and gentlemen, i want to shock you, the test ran within 5 seconds.
shocked, well, thats because all the tests failed and them command.com failed. ha! now you are happy!! there you can go cuss i explorer now. but on a more serious note this was not what shocked me, what really shocked me was that firefox was the last amongst all eligible competitors. it worries me that may be firefox will go down the same way netscape (its mother) did.

they better get firefox 3.1 with tracemonkey, up and running ASAP. Mozilla are you listening?
