>Five Point Someone - 8 points on 10

>
Ogay peeps, its just that i decided to watch the play one more time before i reviewed it, because the last time around, i had a really really really bad experience with the ticket guys and i was sure that any kind of review would have been induced by prejudice and would lead only to further prejudice.

so coming to this time, the show began with a bang. one small push and tada the glass door in IIT ends up in pieces, good good, now that really tests the actors, abijeeth is also part of IIT saarang core you know. So a really good test on how well the actors can pull away a skit about IIT, in IIT, after breaking a glass door, that belonged to IIT. (Ogay they did not break it, but the audience who mobbed the place did )
Well the result? an outstanding performance :). Monty came through as a solid actor. Praveen bharatwaj was natural as Ryan, and Sarvesh Sridhar, was the perfect Alok. Uttara had seriously done her homework well, after that hindu review which screwed her up, and before a huge bunch of IITans, she showed charecter, and did justice to her role. I already mentioned in my previous post that the hindu review was really bad (probably the reporter had some problems with the ticket guy too) but today, uttara came out with a clean chit, no flaw(at least i could not trace any), and the smooch was genuine too( last time they both huged each other and were laughing, i could see that pretty clearly, i don't miss such stuff ;) ). Anshumani Rudra, got into the shoes of a professor who everyone adores, and P.C Ramakrishna was perfect as the prof, who everyone abhores, P.C.R put my coll HOD to shame at being the most repugnant, and abhorrent professor ever.

A play cannot be perfect without a perfect script and all credits go to nikhila for that. But then i felt that a 2 hour direct show was tad too long. A break in the middle could have been great. Again there were a few scenes which i would have loved to see enacted, for example let us say hari's interview, the line "there were certain things i wish to forget about the insti and certain things i would cherish forever ..." could have been a great ending instead of the kind of ending the show now has. Again, the cherian speech (in hari's dream) could have well been enacted too...i am wondering, PCR doing that bit would have got all of us smiling .....but then what ever said and done, writing a play script from a novel, that too adapting a story like five point someone is no easy job, and the director really needs a pat in her back for this.

One thing i really admired about five point someone was the sets, a table, a cot and a elevated structure was all that was there and every scene fitted well into these three. Yesterdays lighting was not great, partly because a) IIT screwed up and there was a hitch in two or three scenes, b) the shadow thrown on the white backdrop was too annoying.

In all i would say this is one play worth watching, but yeah come with an open mind. if you are a regular to plays then may be there is a chance that you will not like it, but again, five point someone was in itself a story that many die hard readers did not like , and that's what made the unique book, a bestseller.

Chaos Buddha, everything in a sentance ( spoofed for fun, no serious offence :) )
neha better learn to limp well and alok thats a 220 ohm and not a 220 k ohm resistor :) prof, resistor is pronounced resistor and not as resisTORRRR. Cherian sir, when you read the letter you should be shocked and not put up a show of paralysis. :)

MADRAS PLAYERS, HERE IS A LESSON TO LEARN. WHEN WE CALL AND RESERVE TICKETS , WE REALLY WANT TO COME. WHEN WE GIVE OUR NAME AS "KAUSIK" WE REALLY EXPECT THAT OUR TICKETS ARE RESERVED FOR US. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IF YOU GUYS WOULD HONESTLY TELL THAT YOU HAVE RUN OUT OF TICKETS, "YES I HAVE RESERVED THE TICKET, COME AT 6 30 P.M" MIGHT SOUND AN EASY WAY TO END TELEPHONIC CONVERSATIONS, BUT THATS NOT DECENT. AND NEXT TIME PLEASE DONT THINK THAT WE ARE DUMB, WE REALLY KNOW THAT THERE CAN BE MORE THAN ONE "KAUSIK" IN THIS WORLD, BUT KINDLY GET THIS STRAIGHT, THERE CAN BE MORE THAN ONE KAUSIK RESERVING AT THE SAME TIME. AND A RESERVATION OF 10 IS DIFFERENT FROM A RESERVATION OF 3. NOW GO DIG IT. AND YEAH I AM SPEAKING WITH SUCH AUTHORITY BECAUSE, MY BLOG LOOKS BETTER THAN YOUR WEBSITE. NOW GO UPDATE IT FOR A START.
