Curse the indian distributors of the film the brifge across terabithia. it was probably the worst thing to promote it as narnia 2. today when i finally saw the movie, i could not help but shed a drop of tear. it takes more than a super cool cast and an amzing director to make a good movie. it takes even more than that to make a piece of art. what i saw today was a piece of art.
it reminded me of my own school days and how i went without a person to call a friend until much later on. Today as i see and appreciate the movie i am thankful to god that i have been blessed with such great friends.
the bridge across terabithia is the story of a lonely boy, who meets this other lonely girl. together they share their imaginations and create their ow world of fantasy, of gentle trolls and dangerous squirrels. A world in which they are the rulers, the king and queen. though the film would hav bombed big time at the box office (not sure about elsewhere but darn sure about it back home in india), it sure had a single unifying continuity that puts a tear on your eyes and a bitter smile on your face reminding you of what all you went through when you were like it.
i am no good critic of a movie, what i call a good movie is one which puts you in the shoe of the protagnist and makes you go through everything that happens on screen as if it was happening to you , ever so subttly, without you even realizing it. Its really hard to portray a real life character on screen within 120 mins. the director has to invariable make compromises, compromises that could make or break the movie altogether. our man seems to have made the right compromises by limiting the charecter sketch of the family of jess and lessie.(something which a seasoned movie buff will call awkward shallowness. a good movie is one in which, you emote with the actor, cry when he cries and laugh when he laughs, all the time being aware that its just a story and nothing else. thats why i call movies such as finding john Christmas excellent.
today i saw a good movie. one of the best i have ever seen. i salute the director who had the patience of seeing through the eyes of a child and creating a world out of it. i salute to the power of imagination, to the power of every human being who has been ruling his or her own terabithia.

(Posting this a-sync from ascendas with battery very low no time for proof reading so adjust :P )
