A busy weekend I had, the four-letter word on Saturday and five point someone on Sunday. Its high time that i wrote about both of them. First off i would talk about TFLW and save five point someone for some other time.
It so happened that i wanted to watch TFLW on its premier but i did not make it to chennai international film festival because i did not have company.(i did not know that sagaro went to it then) Anyway the ones who did see it first day, and for that matter sudhish himself told me not to expect a movie, as in every other movie, So I went to Coffee with an open mind, and true to the word i got something different. TFLW is what you get to see if you hang on the Coffee pubs in the town for too long. The movie talks on how four unsuccessful characters, different from each other in all respects, grow up to take on responsibilities and take on life as it is.
The main target of the movie is the modern youth, and generally the ones who feel young at heart. The initial part of the story introduces you to four guys and two girls stranded and lost in the path of life, unable to resolve their issues leave alone their friend’s. Sunil wants his girl and wants to make a movie, prashant has everything organized and finds no time for fun, vishal not only bombs his medical school entrance, but ends up breaking more women heart. And zebra cant think beyond the three letters S-E-X. Enter Isha and Sara. Isha is the all out girl where as Sara is the typical urban girl, modern at outlook, yet conventional by heart.
And so the story evolves into the complexity of life containing, love, friendship, and a liberal dosage of swear words. Lovers break up, relations are formed and above all the people are still where they started, the four letters called L-O-S-T. Over alcohol the guys suddenly realize how sad their life had actually got, and they almost get suicidal. This is where the plot actually starts to unfold. the guys realize that life is too precious to loose by jumping down broken bridge. They plan their strategy and suddenly everyone gets busy, so busy that their love life gets compromised. How all these young men, attempt to strike a balance between their love and their career finishes the simple and beautiful plot that makes the four letter word L-I-F-E.
The actors did a commendable performance. My pick of the lot was Aashil Nair, brilliant stuff, and the exact looks to make it super big. Cary edward and Evam 'Sunil' did a natural job. Prashant and the ladies were equally good. Best character, on my honest opinion must be that of Sara's(Paloma), i could relate it to so many of my female friends.
Subtle humor, light dialogs and an unconventional cinematography technique, make this more a sneak a peak at your neighboring table at the coffee shop, than a full fledged movie. And this is exactly what makes the movie a unique feel good film.
Points where Suderman missed his mark
* Scene transitions, they were tad too slow.
* The Comic Strips moved a little too fast before you could read.
* Cary seemed a little too old for medical school, and the eccentric zebra did not show any signs of hiss quizzing ability, but for the comic strip words.
Suderman Hits Bull's Eye
* BGM and the Rap were too good.
* The unanswered questions like, the age of these people, and their background, keeps you guessing till the end, and this suitably helps everyone relate these set of characters to yourself and your best friends. In short flexibility in characters traits to suit your imagination.
* Good choice of location, makes you go "i have been there, done that"
*Subtle humour, makes you smile and not roll over the floor laughing and dirtying it in the process.
