>Turtle Walk 1

>Every evening when the last of jaywalkers at elliots leave, a bunch of young enthusiastic environmentalist gather at neelangarai and get ready for a walk , a long walk along the litoral searching for the nests of olive ridley turtles.
i knew about the walks a long time ago, but only this friday night did i get a chance to go along with them. All thanks to the adyar times which carried an article about it. so i called up one of the organizers , and at 10 50 landed at elliots along with close friend aravind. i was in for a surprise, i expected a dozen or so people to be there, but there were 60 already, siemens india had decided on an 'excursion' and decided that the turtle walk would be the thing for them. And they came packed with cartons of packed plastic bottled water, and use and throw boxes, enough to let me know what kind of 'environmental walk' they were here for.

Just then did i meet the organizers. Arun anna, is an engineer by qualification, and a teacher by profession, one of those few guys who gave up their profession to pursue their passion. And i heard from him that Students Sea Turtle Conservation Network (SSTCN) the organization behind the event, was nothing more than he and his students, who hope to bring about a difference. All my apprehensions were gone and i decided to become a regular walker. Arun was telling us that the weekends got crowded these days thanks to the media hype but during the weekdays it was just two or three guys walking.

Bigger surprise, a bunch of energetic kids landed up from the abacus (please pronounce AA bucus) monteserri school, highly energetic, but atleast they disposed their bottles in the dustbin. Even bigger surprise, Anusha, Rahul and nirmal, my vanavanian friends. Anusha has been walking for over a year now...i am dumb struck, :|
biggest of all big surprises, even as i was being briefed with the abacus kids , a dumb she turtle (turtles are dumb, but they are lovely) decided to nest right at our starting point :) wow ..i wanted to see a turtle and i was going to see it even before i started the walk. :)

As of now i will save the description of the walk for a later date .will put photographs as well.

But one thing is for sure i will be there next friday night ..and yes one more thing, if mom leaves me i will do a week day walk as well
