>Lots of interesting things happening this week. I got a mail from fellow VECian Dinesh ,stating that he had started a FOSS User Group in my college. I was surprised, i thought that words such as FOSS and Linux were taboo . A quick instant messaging conversation later i was into it full swing. this happened day before yesterday. Today i and dinesh decided to go and address our juniors about it.
I was worried slightly, here i was a mechanical engineering student, with self taught knowledge of computers and i had to go address a whole class of computer science students. two mins into the presentation i got confident, fortunately for me and unfortunately for India our education system literally made cuckoo birds out of us and these students were blinking when i asked them what was meant by kernel. Computer Science 101.

So we started of and told them everything we knew about FOSS. and were they receptive or what. At the end of each presentation we went about collecting atleast a Rupee from each student, we have planned to burn Ubuntu CDs for all these people. We were previously planning to give it for free, but later realized that if we wanted to solidly advocate for something then we had to charge something. The atleast 1 Rs for Open source was a great hit and we actually managed to collect something like 200 Rs per class. a very good start. we are going to now talk to the management and set up a couple of freedom toasters around the college.

I believe that there is going to be a FOSS explosion soon in our country and i am glad that we are ahead in comparison to other self financing colleges in the city.

The E Cell of the college is also shaping up nicely more about it tomorrow.
