In a last attempt to keep orkut spirit alive, orkut team india has recently launched custom themes for their profiles. Now users in India can change their profile team from the monotonous dull blue to one of the 12 vibrant themes.
If you are a girl, then listen up there is a there is a cuddly cuddly pink coloured theme with teddy bears and Barbies.
From a hard core geek perspective what i would really love to see is google making it possible for developers to build custom themes and upload it to a repo from which user can select their desired theme. Something similar to wordpress skins where people can browse and then add the theme they want. This would add more fun and definitely give a boost in activities especially from young amateur developers, those who either find open social too complicated or too boring.
Casual Developers, I am sure such a day will soon come. Until then enjoy what ever orkut theme orkut gives you. Beggars cannot be choosers. And yeah the 12 themes are as usual Sad. I love the original orkut theme that existed till august last. Sadly i bet most of them in orkut right now would not even have seen it.
